Today we will learn how to host a static website on Github for free. Github allows us to transfer a static site on their foundation utilizing Github Pages for free. Github Pages is a feature that allows us to host static websites. We can even use your own domain names.
Steps:
and then Boom!!!
Let’s host a website on Github
Step 1: Signup on Github
From your web browser, go to github.com and Sign up for a new account (or Sign in if you already have a GitHub account.)
Step 2: Create a repository
Now we need to create a repository. A repository is that where we will store our files and folders. To create a repository click on ‘new repository’ or click the flowing link to create new repository.
Step 3: Upload files
Now we need to upload our website’s files and folders. Make sure there has an index.html file. cause index.html will be the root file on your site. If you don’t do so it will throw an error. Follow the instructions of the images below.
Hurry! we have successfully uploaded our files and folders.
Step 4: Create a Github page
We are at the end of our goal. now we have to create a Github gage. Let’s follow the instruction on the images below.
BOOM! Now we are done. now you can share the link wherever you want. you can even use a custom domain also.
Note:
- We are only allowed to host static websites. no dynamic website anymore.
- At once we can only upload 100 files. if we need to upload more files, we can upload then in twice or more.
